[Todesanzeige] Florida Obituary Archive: Dr. Joseph Ransohoff III, 85, world renowned neurosurgeon and innovator in the field neurosurgery passed away at his residence on Tuesday, January 30, 2001. Dr. Ransohoff is survived by his wife, Lori; sons, Joseph Louis Ransohoff, III and Jake Ransohoff; daughters, Joan Wynn, and Jade Ransohoff; as well as his grandchildren, James and Benjamin Wynn and Christopher and Sianna Ransohoff. Following in the steps of his father and grandfather he is the third surgeon in his family, his grandfather perfecting above the knee amputations. He was a surgeon in the US Army and was an honorary police surgeon providing surgery at no cost to police officers neurologically wounded. He was called upon by the directors and producers of the Ben Casey television show of which he was the surgical consulta nt. He was an avid fisherman. Dr. Ransohoff graduated from Harvard University and received his medical degree from the University of Chicago. He was professor and chairman at New York Univeristy Neurosurgery Department for 34 years and was a professor of Neurosurgery at USF. He had a great gusto for living and was dearly loved. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Congregation Schaarai Zedek Bayshore Blvd. Tampa. Mark III Funeral Home 831-9444.
